Lawn Care Packages
-
Base packages include three applications of organic fertilizer, spring and fall herbicide treatments and a fall lime application.
-
Our approach follows the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy for sustainable use with fewer inputs to your lawn.
Liming & Fertilizing
-
We offer spring and fall liming applications as well as spring, summer and late summer fertilizer applications.
-
These applications help regulate soil pH and promote a healthy soil microbiome - thickening turf while making it more resistant to weeds and common pests.
Weed Control
-
We only use chemicals when our thresholds are exceeded after any mechanical (i.e. dethatching and aerating) and fertilizer applications are applied.
-
Our packages typically consist of standard government-approved chemicals that are safe for pets and humans. These compounds are the same as those that are used to treat weeds in common agriculture practices (i.e. on the food we eat).
-
We also offer an iron-based, pesticide-free option known as Fiesta. This is an even safer alternative and is used in provinces with stricter regulations.
Insect Control
-
We use a granular product (acelepryn) to treat for June Bug larvae (grub). These treatments are usually applied in the spring when adults lay their eggs in the soil.
-
Chinch bug is the second most common insect found in New Brunswick lawns and are most problematic during the hottest days in July and August. Our approach is to treat these pests with a liquid insecticide called Tetrino when numbers reach injury thresholds on your turf.
Dethatching
-
One of the single most important things you can do to your lawn in the spring is to remove the layers of dead grass called thatch. Problems begin to arise without the sufficient breakdown of thatch by microbes and other beneficial organisms in your soil. This causes an accumulation of dead organic material (mostly grass clippings) and prevents granular fertilizers and lime from reaching the soil and feeding the turfs roots.
-
We offer dethatching services through the use of a dethatcher or power rake which both use heavy tines to slice through the thatch layer. These removal processes are usually done in the spring when thatch levels are at their highest.
Aerations
-
Aerating your lawn is another easy, chemical free way of improving the overall health of your turf. Creating small holes in the soil makes it easy for air, water and nutrients to penetrate deeper into the root system. Stronger, deeper roots not only enhances water and nutrient uptake but it also help mitigate soil compaction.
-
These services can be performed in the spring but are usually carried out in the fall when soils have dried out and firmed up.
Top Dressing & Overseeding
-
Topdressing is a thin layer of soil and/or compost that can be added to your lawn in a 1/2"-1" layer. It can be used to help level your lawn, increase the amount of soil microorganisms in the soil and boost water retention. This is most effective following dethatching or aeration and is usually followed by overseeding to promote a dense turf stand that is more resistant to weeds and pests.
-
This service is usually carried out in the spring or fall when soil temperatures are ideal for grass seed germination. Spot treating troubled areas in your turf is most common when it comes to this practice.
Shrub Bed Maintenance
-
We offer shrub bed installation, cleanup and maintenance services. Our cleanups involve edging and weed of any existing beds followed by the spreading of bark mulch for a clean finished look. We also offer monthly weeding and trimming services throughout the season followed by a fall cleanup where plants are cut back prior to winter.
